The demand for ethically sourced and produced pet food is growing as consumers increasingly understand the connections between the products they buy and the affects those choices can have on the environment and animal welfare.

Vegetarian pet food has been available in one form or another for decades. In India dogs have been fed exclusively vegetarian diets for centuries.

We have sold vegetarian and vegan pet food all over the UK and Europe since 2003 and the feedback from consumers has been excellent with new customers coming each day.

The quality of the products that are now available are a match for the best selling pet food brands. All the products are well formulated and supplemented with the vitamins and minerals required by legislation. Along with other factors such as modern and preofessional peresentaion has helped consumers become more confident in the products.

The potential for growth

Two large retail sectors have not yet recognised the full potential of vegetarian pet foods. The traditional pet shops are often unaware that the products exist, that they are well proven and that they already have vegetarian customers that would consider the products. The health food sector who have very many customers who would readily purchase such products do not traditionally sell pet products.

Why sell Vegetarian Pet Food?

Other factors are that many consumers would prefer to avoid purchasing meat based for for ethical and/or religious reasons. Hindu, Jewish, Vegetarian and Vegan customers all see an attraction in products where these contentious ingredients are absent.

Customer loyalty is something that many retailers rely on. We have found that customers that have selected a vegetarian diet for any or all of the reasons outlined above will stick with that product for the rest of animal life. This could be as long as 12 years for many dogs.
